Reading is the key to your future, someone once told me. I don’t know where they heard it from, or even if it was someone famous, but to this day, I remember it, and realize just what sort of wise words they are.

            It is essential in today’s society, where everything is on computers, and having the ability to read direction, it is very important for learning and the best is for recreation.

            Reading can take you away to exotic places, Puerto Rico or the Bahamas, where the sun shines almost every day, with beaches to roam, and ships to sail. China and Japan, where the cultures are very different than ours in the USA. So when you are unable to travel, you can pick up a book and let your imagination take you anywhere you want to go. Reading about the villages in Africa, small town in Italy, the dances and ceremonies, there is a whole wide world out there, where all you have to do is pick up a book and read it.

            How about reading about knights in shining armor, or fighting dragons with spikes, all from the comfort of you home. Run free in the jungle, swinging from one tree to another, tracking deer, and lions.  Learn about the traits of different animals, how they find food and care for their young off springs. What does the daddy do for the babies, do the moms leave them alone. How do animals show affection or love, do the animals have a family, is it called a family? It is all out there, in books just waiting to be discovered.

            Reading is something we continuously do, from the supermarket, road signs, to a great book, there is nothing like snuggling with a good love story, or horror book, to end an exhausting day. Reading to your children is very important from the time they are born, if you show them the love of reading, they too will grow up to love reading. Reading enhances their vocabulary, tremendously. They learn how to learn the meaning of the word, just by the content in which it is being used, or at the very least the get a sense of the feeling, that the author is trying to portray.

            Love to cook there are recipes from all over the world, in libraries, book store and through searching on the internet you can find a recipe for almost anything that people cook. The Internet, connects you to other states, countries, continents and the possibility of what the other galaxies out there look like, all you have to do is search.

            Reading also promotes good writing skills, it teaches us new words, helps us create an imagination, it help us find a style that is all our own. Through reading and writing, you are able to find out so much about a person, by the books they read, and their particular style of writing.

            Reading is a love that needs to be instilled very early in life, and is coached and nurtured to and through adulthood.
