All-American Girl: 21-26
The president disagreed with Samantha’s choice for the “My Window” contest. So to get back at him, Samantha did an exclusive interview with reporter Candace Wu explaining that the president did not approve of her decision for the “My Window” contest.
The president finally agreed with her after she chose a painting they could both agree on. Samantha then had to explain to Jack why she did not choose his painting as the winner for the “My Window” contest. Jack got very mad at her and later, Lucy told Samantha that she and Jack broke up because he was a total jerk to her sister. Samantha then realized that she was not in love with Jack, but with David. She needed advice and went to see Susan Boone for help. Once Susan Boone explained what “freedom of speech” meant, Samantha knew what she had to do. In art class, David gave a note asking Samantha to be friends again, but she wanted to be more than friends. Finally, the story ends with Samantha receiving the presidential medal of valor and her first boyfriend, David.
In this part of the story, Samantha learns really what “freedom of speech” means. According to her scenario, she had the right to have a different opinion, but it was wrong to argue with the president and have things her way. That is truly the moral of the story. And also, try to see what is before you before making decisions.
