The animal is so “self-contained and placid” was said as Walt Whitman observed them. Perhaps it meant that they appear to be at peace with the rest of nature and need not bother with upsetting the nature that surrounds them. There are not preoccupied with how to take advantage of nature’s resources and then worry about how to restore them or try to keep the scales from tipping into ecological chaos. It can be said they have their own quiet dignity which man can only envy as he itches to maintain his position of power and depossess others who are less fortunate materially.

Who are we to be able to effectively judge how our beasts are better or worse but there are many who think that the breeding which gave them their pet selected for the best qualities.
