Book Review Boy Tales of Childhood Roald Dahl

Boy is the first part of the late Roald Dahl’s autobiography. It describes some of his antics and experiences as a child.

Roald Dahl was born in Wales and the went to secondary school in England, where he seemed to get up to all sorts of mischief. He splits the book into three main sections after a brief description of his parents as well as his time in nursery education.

The first part deals with his time at Llandaff Cathedral School. You will laugh when reading the chapters that cover The Great Mouse Plot, Mr Coombes, and The Magic Island.

The second part discusses how Dahl reacted to going to St Peter’s School in England. He recounts how he overcame homesickness to adjust to his new surroundings and school. Once he got to grips with it he got back to enjoying himself.

The final part deals with Dahl’s last years at school, and his first proper job working for Royal Dutch Shell. He continued telling his story in the sequel Going Solo.
