Book Review: Twilight
Jake’s review of Stephenie Meyer’s book Twilight.
List of Fantasy Book Series You Should Read
This is probably the most overrated book I’ve read. I read it to see what the hype is about, and I get why it sells- it has a wide target audience: teenage girls. romance readers, and vampire lovers (Who would have thought?). A reader who likes Twilight is like a radio listener who thinks Soulja Boy is a real emcee. Let me point out the problems in this book: first of all, Stephanie Meyer, like what Stephen King said, “Can’t write a darn thing!”. The way he describes her characters are just not well-written. She uses Bella Swan to tell the readers how charming Edward is instead of developing her characters in a better way: showing instead of telling.
The plot isn’t that exciting. It bored me to death. Twilight really ruined vampires (glittering vampires? Are you serious?). Meyer’s tactile imagery: Bella’s feelings, skin-on-skin, etc. made the book appealing to readers who are into cheap romance (but they’re not aware it’s cheap) I just hate this book with a passion. If you want a good vampire series, read Charlaine Harris’s The Southern Vampire series instead because Sookie Stackhouse is a much better character than Bella Swan.
