Character Analysis of Eve Renner in Lisa Jackson’s Absolute Fear Novel
This is an analysis of the main character in Absolute Fear by Lisa Jackson.
A Frightening Killer
Eve Renner is the main character in Lisa Jackson’s Absolute Fear. There is a vicious serial killer going around slaughtering her friends and family however he is saving her for last. She is a victim in similar killings. This horrifying killer is torturing many poor, innocent people. In Lisa Jackson’s Absolute Fear, Eve gets really panic-stricken, although she still seems to show how intelligent and bright she really is.
The definition of the most panicky person in this novel would have to be Eve. She started having a panic attack on her way to the store. Somebody was stalking her. With a worrisome look through her rear-view mirror she realized that the old, red pick-up truck that was travelling a couple of cars behind her was identical to the truck that followed her home. She also noticed that the person in the truck was chasing after her aggressively and he looked very angry. This is when she started having a panic attack. Another example of Eve being paranoid was when Cole Dennis, the guy who she claims to have shot her, arrives on her front porch steps. In the novel, it shows that she is very panicky during this scene because she started freaking out when she noticed who was banging on her front door. Terrified of Cole, she grabbed her gun, aimed it at him and threatened him to leave or she will call the police. From the text in the novel, Eve Renner seems to be guilty of being a very panicky type of person.
Despite being just a little paranoid, Eve still manages to show how intelligent she is. She knew for a fact that Cole would never shoot her, even though when her amnesia kicked in she forgot exactly what happened. She still isn’t one hundred percent certain that he didn’t accidentally shoot her. She decides to keep her distance from him to eliminate the chance of getting shot at again. This doesn’t exactly sound correct but Eve is actually smart to trust Cole even though he is the main suspect of the homicides. Eve starts to let Cole stay over at her house and one morning she decides to show him the envelope of newspaper clippings that the serial killer had purposely left in the glove compartment of her car. She was smart to show Cole these clippings because he is the one who encourages her to take them to the detectives. Later on in the novel, these newspaper clippings are used as evidence in the crimes. Another example that proves that Eve is brilliant-minded is when she decides to go up in the attic at the old asylum. She went to see if any old files were still remaining up there. She thought these files might contain some reliable information. This is when she discovered her favorite doll from her childhood which was lying on the floor in a position showing how Eve will end up. She is definitely a very knowledgeable person and there are many more examples in this novel to prove that.
