Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Question: Does Rick have a sheep fetish? Maybe.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Maybe in this Book Review:

Subtitle: “Blade Runner” Is the title they gave the film adaption of it:

Without seeing the film it made sense to enjoy a supposed gem of a book……well they were right on it being a excellent read, everything it Had brought a nice sense of passing from little fragments of humour to a unbelievable twist halfway through that nearly throws you off centre before they bring you another twist in the twist of the twist (There’s two twists at the same time….practically) that made for a enjoyable read along the way to France abound a ferry for six mind numbing hours…..but thankfully denied with this brilliant book.

So first off you’ll going to image Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard throughout, thanks for Ripley Scott turning it into a film, but that’s the only character I imaged from the film with the rest for an odd reason, for me, were anime based. A surreal way to see every character for much of the book that really did have the moment where I kept imaging Rachael as a really hot anime chick; an automatic response on how she was described…..18….stuff….sorry where was I? Characters, right! Characters throughout have this nice implied (With the Androids mostly) a weird childish nature to them or some of them (With the female androids mostly). I can’t get over how great each character got presented from Rick weird obsession for sheep (Insert witty sheep fetish joke) to…..well that’s the only character I’m willing to reveal any details about here.

The storyline of the book is enjoyable as it takes place over the period of one day without ever feeling like it’s trying to cram a lot into the 210 pages (Roughly the same as Hitchhiker’s) never feels overcrowded or rushed with each chapter giving a nice stepping stone that doesn’t make you slip or shake off into the water. The book has this nice progression even when it changes pace from Rick hunting down a new kind of Android to the subplot (I shall not mention it at how I want you to find out for yourself) though points sometime feel a little disjointed in skipping past one point by the next chapter, but in the end it has this nice thing about making you think it over.

People say this book presents the complexity of human nature written in a simple manner, but weirdly I read it and I understand what it’s getting at…nothing seems to come at me in huge joints of throwing me off centre (Except for one of the best twists within a twist in a twist), but just me reading and thinking it over for a brief time at the back of my mind to nod on understanding it. I don’t know how that makes me, ether someone who sees the complexities in a simple grid or if I see it at the very core towards what it means without even thinking about it. The same situation occurred to me with Utena the Movie and Neon Genesis Evangelion. They didn’t confuse me….the ideas and theme they presented to me were clear as crystal for the short time I needed to think it over.

Do I recommend this book? Yes I do at how it presents so much in the 200 or so pages without ever cramming anything in, the book is a brilliant piece fiction that shouldn’t be missed and so I salute Philip K. Dick for this book….a great writer who’s sadly missed.

Thought of the Day: July 19th

I finished “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” in little over six hours the day before on the ferry and now thinking of reading “Dune”. The time to read and expand my mind is at hand for the next two weeks….also I’m writing a comic script to submit to 2000AD with five alternative ideas springing to mind; also I’m planning to get a copy of Blade Runner to enjoy.
