Eragon is  a poor farmer who stumbles upon a dragon egg while hunting. Now that he is a dragon rider, he must choose whether to fight the Empire or join the Varden. He fights bravely and finds many accomplices. Eragon is the first dragon rider to exist out of the Empire’s control in over 100 years.Brom is the storyteller of Carvahall. He learns that Eragon is a dragon rider and helps him. He knows a lot about dragons because he used to be a rider. He teaches Eragon magic and trains him to fight. Brom was killed by the Raz’zac for refusing to give up information about Eragon. Eragon was hunting in the Spine when he found a blue, polished stone. He thinks that it is worth money, so he carries it back to his home. When he tries to sell it to a fortune teller, she tells him to keep it. Later that night, a dragon emerges from the stone.  Eragon goes to Brom, the storyteller, to ask him about dragons. Brom can tell that Eragon owns a dragon because of all the questions he asks and because of the mark on his hand. This mark shows that Eragon is a dragon rider. Brom teaches Eragon how to fight and how to use magic. Brom was once a dragon rider. Eragon names his dragon Saphira. Eragon doesn’t want to support the king so he tries to stay hidden. He chooses to side with the Varden, a group of dwarves that live in hiding because they are against the Empire.  Brom, Eragon, and Saphira have to flee town so they are not discovered. Brom is captured and killed for not giving up information about Eragon. When the Empire plans an attack on the Varden, Eragon and Saphira have to protect them. They collapse tunnels to prevent the warriors from invading. In the end, Eragon and Saphira defeat the Urgals. Soon after, Eragon is attacked by a shade. The only way that Eragon can kill the shade is by stabbing him through the heart. Eragon plays dead, but when the shade comes near him, he sits up, uses magic and shoves his sword through the shade’s heart. Eragon becomes a legend for slaying the shade and is worshiped throughout the kingdom.This story takes place in a village called Carvahall, underground, and in the Hadarac Desert.
