Fairy Tales and Finger Pointing

Censoring media for the fault of parents neglect.

How many of you readers have heard or read something like this within the last six or seven years:  “That game is too violent and causes my child to do bad things”  “Sex and Violence on TV is why our youth is out of control”  or even better “That music is the devils music and forces our kids into rash decisions like drugs and suicide.”  Probably not word for word but you get my drift.  So how about these:  “It’s the responsibility of the parent to teach the difference between reality and TV” Or, “If parents spent time with their children they might be less inclined to think the radio is the only one who’ll listen.”  I’ll bet not so much.

Whether or not people want to admit it, Every generation has had it’s share of “Devils music” and what gets me is every previous generation seems to conveniently forget that too.  Right, Elvis fans?   This is my point, Music doesn’t kill people.  I haven’t heard one song yet that says “hey kids go get daddy’s gun from the cabinet”  Video games are violent.  But it’s up to the parents to teach the children that it’s bad to go kick someone in the throat and steal a car.  We’re not born with a conscious, it’s drilled into us.  We learn right from wrong.

Shielding a child is not the answer.  They’re going to find it in school, on the streets and probably from you, even if all they watch is Disney Channel  (which is a joke anyway).  The truth is, Disney sells more sex to your kids then MTV.  Boy bands, Pop Princesses and cartoon princesses alike all send out the same message, I’m hot you want me.  The Prince only wants a beautiful woman with no voice and no backbone.

When I read Cinderella her stepsisters chopped of their toes to fit into that glass slipper, and Ariel never got her Prince.  That’s the real world.  That’s the world our children won’t be expecting when their only role models get pregnant at 15 or talk to singing mice.  And one day they’ll realise there’s not always a happily ever after and the ones that aren’t prepared, are going to be the ones sitting by the radio with a gun.  More then likely listing to Britney Spears, and crying over a picture of the Jonas Brothers.

Disney isn’t that bad, but you’re entitle to your opinion. Britney Spears is crap though, I’ll give you that.

Even if I ddin’t agree with what you’ve written (and I do) this is worded with such passion that a person must at least respect it.

But is it wrong that I still want to have sex with all 3 of the Jonas brothers at once?
