Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
Book Review of Firefly lane by Kristin Hannah.
Firefly Lane by New York Times bestselling author, Kristin Hannah, tells the story about two girls who connect even though there are circumstances that would try to pull them apart. Firefly Lane was published in February of 2008 by St. Martin’s Press. This book tells the story about love, loss and what friendship can bring.
It is nineteen seventy four and Kate Malarkey has made the decision to accept her fate as someone who will never do what she wants to do and have the “cool” friends”. She is amazed and surprised when another girl moves into the neighborhood and befriends her. Tully Hart is everything that Kate wishes that she, herself, could be. These two girls are opposites in every sense of the word, but they seem to have what it takes to make their friendship. Kate comes from a loving family while Tullah hides from what her family is like. They make the decision to be forever friends, no matter what happens.
Firefly Lane takes place over the course of three decades of these two women and what they make of their lives. Tullah has this desperation inside to be better than her mother and proof that she can do what she wants and be whoever she wants to be. She also wants someone to love her like no other, since she never had that growing up. She will be the one to look for love in all the wrong places as the song goes and make something of herself. She will follow a path that only she sees and no one else is likely to follow.
Kate is the opposite of Tullah and knows what she wants in her life. She lets Tullah drag her along but all she wants is a family to love and care for. She has what it takes to be what and who she wants, but all she wants is what her parents have. She will follow her own path and do the best that she can with what life has given her. Through the years, the two girls will remain friends and follow their own unique paths until one day something happens that will most possibly tear them apart. Firefly Lane is a story of an unique friendship and bond between two friends. This book will leave you wanting more and wishing that you never want to finish the book.
