Five Reasons Why Mr. Darcy Can’t Satisfy Today’s Woman
The most brooding and romantic character in all of fiction, Mr. Darcy wouldn’t fit into today’s idea of the perfect man.
1. He’s basically a stalker.
In every attempt to win Elizabeth Bennet’s love, Darcy stops at nothing to be where she is. In theory it’s romantic. But if you’ve seen the Matthew Macfadyen and Keira Knightley movie adaptation, that scene at Bingley’s Ballroom where Darcy is always right behind her…let’s just say the ballroom music could easily be replaced with The Police’s “Every Breath You Take” (I’ll be Watching You) better known as the stalker’s national anthem.
2. He’s anti-social.
“I, do not have the talent of conversing easily with people I have never met before.”- There it is, straight from the horse’s mouth. Okay, so shy is one thing, in fact, shy can be cute. But come on ladies, he’s just downright rude! Besides his friend Bingley, he ignores everyone else, even after him and Elizabeth get together, there’s not really any interaction between him and the rest of the Bennet’s. Think about this scenario in today’s world. You have a boyfriend that you think is amazing and are just dying to introduce him to all your girlfriends. Imagine if he acted the way Darcy does? You’d be mortified and most of your friends would hate him/plot evil ways to sabotage your relationship.
3. He’s brooding aka EMO!
Dude..he’s more of a chick than a guy! Who wants to deal with a guy who’s that emotional and moody all the time. That’s OUR job! Lizzy is way more put together than Darcy and even though he’s rich, that doesn’t make his attitude any more appealing.
4. He’s extremely
intenseneedy.Everyone always says “Oh Mr. Darcy is just so intense!” In today’s world, intense translates to needy and kind of crowding, he resembles today’s version of the pathetic little lost puppy. Today’s modern woman is independent and doesn’t need a man to complete her. Mr. Darcy totally cramps the style of today’s woman and sooner rather than later she’d be telling Mr. D to back off and give her a little space instead of following her around and staring at her all day long.
5. He’s kind of a wet blanket.
This point basically sums up the other four. In theory these ideas are romantic, but in reality, Darcy adds up to a pretty boring dude! In today’s world, women wouldn’t give him a second glance. I’m not saying today’s men are perfect (far from it in fact) but at least they’re real and can bring some spontaneity to today’s women. The only exciting thing about Darcy is when he reveals his secret pining for Elizabeth. After all of that gets straightened out…It’s pretty anti-climatic. Ever wonder why we never see past the wedding night? Use your imagination, like I wrote, he’s pretty predictable…
While these may not be scientific, they are reasons all the same. So the next time you say Mr. Darcy is the perfect man, think again!
Liked it

LOL great article
i honestly liked this one.i’ve loved the movie ever since i saw it but i never thought of it from your point of view. and now that i have, .. haha so true!
Still…..can’t get over Mr. DARCY!
You seem lesbian?
Maybe you should go marry Elibeth Bennet
if Mr. Darcy doesn’t satisfy your needs. Or
perhaps get a life, because who writes about
disliking Mr. Darcy on the web? Honestly?
if this is based on the movie, then you have made some fair points. if you’ve actually read the book then you must have completely misread his character and are making the very same assumption Elizabeth makes when meeting him (and remember she realizes that she’s wrong…)
You’re an idiot.
You are an idiot. He may not be for you but he’s not “Gay” or a “Chick”. That’s just retarded, because he’s more manly then any “Man” in our generation today.
You don’t like him? Don’t watch the movie.
There are loads of girls, including me, who love his personality traits. We can relate, and he’s pretty damn sexy and mysterious.
Shut up.
