Five Tips to Find a Good Read
I often feel like looking for a book is a troublesome and time consuming effort on my part. Using these tips may cut down on the hassle for some of you.
I relish reading… no, I idolize reading. So when it takes me a couple hours to find a good book I’m frustrated. With all that time, I might as well have been reading one! Here are a couple tips to help you avoid having to comb through every nook and cranny of your local library or bookstore.
- Don’t spend time reading half of a potential purchase unless it seems interesting. My advice is that you drop it if it doesn’t totally entrance you. (Don’t really do that, I don’t want a bunch of librarians hunting me down because you dropped a book)
- Pick a genre that you’re interested in and stick with it.(for the most part) Since I don’t really enjoy reading reference books, I tend to go there after I visit my favorite books first. Say fiction or something like that for example. Undoubtedly some of you actually enjoy reading reference books. If that’s the case, go for it.
- Read the first few pages and see if you like the authors style of writing. Half the time, I’ll look at the back cover of a book and think it’ll be boring and then open it to find wonders.
- Excuse my redundancy. Do not pay attention to the cover. You must have heard, “Never judge a book by its cover.” I don’t think who ever said this saying first meant it this way, but quite frankly, many good books have terrible covers. It’s an opinion that is proved true quite often. (Sorry writers)
- If all else fails, take a break. There isn’t any rule that says that you can’t come back and search tomorrow. I’d rather get a good book later, than one I won’t ever read instantly.
As stated in the title, these are tips. Follow as many or as few as you want. Be warned, you will most certainly get mixed results.
