Good Enough by Paula Yoo

My summary of this book.

In the book Good Enough, by Paula Yoo, the protagonist is Patti Yoon. Patti Yoon is a Korean-American girl who faces the problems of a teenage girl. Patti has to live up to her parents many high expectations. Patti learns to overcome her burdens and loves what she does.

In the book Patti faces many problems. The first problem Patti faces is the problem she feared all her life. Patti faces her parents and their high expectations for her academic success. Her parents want her to get at least 2300 on the SAT’s and get accepted into Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. Patti’s parents expect her to be the best at violin. The second problem for Patti is a boy named Ben. During the tryout for the All-Sate Orchestra Patti saw Ben, and had a crush on him. This crush becomes a huge distraction for Patti and she starts slacking in her academic life. Another problem Patti faces is the fact she doesn’t know if she wants to follow the path her parents set for her. She is hesitant and wants to go apply for Julliard to study music, but is faced with the problems she may encounter from her parents.

Patti overcomes all these problems and ends up living a great life. At the end of the book Patti faces her parents. Patti got her replies from the colleges and all the Ivy leagues accepted her. Patti tells her parents she got accepted into Julliard. Her parents get mad, but Patti stands up for herself and tells them that happiness and successful are not the same things. Ben and Patti are good friends and it was Ben who encouraged her to apply to Julliard. Patti tells her parents that she’s happy and that’s all that she cares about. She tells them she’s happy when she plays the violin and when she gets good grades. Patti’s parents understand and let her choose the college to go to.

The result of Patti overcoming her problems is a new beginning for her life. Patti will choose to go to Yale and join the special program they offer. Patti now can make the choices in her life freely. Before, she had to worry if her parents will disagree. Her parents will now understand that Patti is responsible. They will accept her choices. Patti will realize that she can do anything with her life and the possibilities are endless.

In conclusion we see how Patti had to face many problems. Patti faced all these problems and still remained a super smart student and a great violinist. She learns that her life is not limited and she can pursue any dream she has.
