Hatchet and a Cry in The Wild Comparison

I will compare the difference between the book Hatchet and the movie based off it A Cry in the Wild.

Have you ever been stranded in the Canadian wilderness for 54 days with nothing, but a hatchet. Well our class read a book called Hatchet and then watched the movie A Cry In The Wild (based on Hatchet) ,and in both the main character Brian Robeson gets in that same situation. In this essay you will learn that movies and books are not always much alike and sometimes are very similar.

After I read the book Hatchet some scenes in A Cry in the Wild were almost exactly as I imagined them. In Hatchet Brian Robeson crashes in a lake in the Canadian wilderness. I was pleasantly surprised that the movie stayed true to that. When I read I read Hatchet Brian starts a fire with just a hatchet and a rock furthermore, in A Cry in the Wild it was exactly as I imagined. In the book Brian goes into the lake and gets a survival pack. In the movie it was so exact that the pack had the same contents. The movie A Call in the Wild has a scene where Brian’s cave is invaded by a porcupine, and Brian kicks it and throws his hatchet at it. In the same way the book has the porcupine enter and exit. I really liked that in hatchet many things were exactly as I imagined.

All movies have their differences that you either love or cringe at. Hatchet and its movie are exactly like what I just said. In Hatchet I liked Brian runs into a bear, and it just stands there and looks at him, however in A Cry in the Wild the bear attacks him and destroys his camp. I also noticed that the movie had Brian leave his hatchet behind at his camp. I noted in the book that it was different, and he takes his hatchet with him. That difference really irked me. One thing that made me cringe was that in A Cry in the Wild Brian ate bugs, worms, slugs, etc., whereas in the book it had Brian not eat anything like that. A difference I actually like was that in Hatchet Brian does not really keep track of time, but in the movie he makes tallies on a board.

So, as you can see there are big and small differences between movies and books. Some are good and some are bad. The similarities can be very vivid or they can be just not very descriptive.
