From this book, I learned to always appreciate what you have.  In this book, when Shane’s father commits suicide, the need to pay for a funeral and take care of many other things.  They do not have enough money so they sell their house and start to live in city housing.  I realized that everything could disappear in an instant.

The main character in this book is Shane Hunter. This story takes place in Seattle, Washington. The main problem is that Shane’s father is a criminal and commits suicide.  Another problem is that Shane is in his senior year of high school and he does not  have enough money to go to college. If his mother sends Shane to college, she will  not be able to  send his sister to college. When he sells his house,  he  moves into city housing.  He must go to a new school and make new friends.  He must work hard to keep his grades up.    The problem is solved when his team wins the state tournament because Shane saved the game. He receives a scholarship to the University of Portland.
