Life of Pi, Quotes

Just some of my favorite quotes from life of pi.

“A germ of religious exaltation, no bigger than a mustard seed, was sown in me and left to germinate. It has never stopped growing since that day.”

This quote is a great metaphor, expressing Pi’s great love for god. It’s saying that once Pi was introduces to religion, he never forgot about it and instead embraced religion. Later on he even takes classes on religious practice. Plus, he studied three major religions: Hinduism, Christianity, and Muslim. When the three men of the religions asked him which one he preferred, he simply said, “I just want to love god.”

“I have nothing to say of my working life, only that a tie is a noose, and inverted though it is, it will hang a man nonetheless if he’s not careful.”

Once again a great metaphor, it really expresses his feeling on working. This is truly a clever quote. It makes total sense. Working yourself too hard can easily kill you or emotionally damage you. He warns us that doing so is not a risk worth taking and that if your not careful about it, the act of getting some money can take your life away.

“The lower you are, the higher your mind will want to soar.”

This is a quote that is not only true, yet it shows what we as humans are like. Whenever we are poor or cannot experience what others may, we tend to be jealous. We sometimes want things that are unimaginable because we don’t have as much. When some that have even a little more than those unfortunate ones, they tend to want less because they have experienced more luxuries.
