Lottery
A review of the book by Patricia Wood.
This book is a debut from a new author, Patricia Wood. I read the blurb and was intrigued by it which spurred me to read it. It’s about a guy, called Perry, who is slightly retarded, and he lives with his grandparents and has done so since he was a little boy because his biological parents didn’t want him.
His grandparents have always been there for him, protecting him from his real family and others who made fun of him because he was slow. His grandpa dies first and then when his grandma suddenly dies, he is left alone to cope all by himself…oh and he also has to cope with winning 12 million dollars from the Lottery! Suddenly he’s not so lonely anymore, and because he’s slow people think that they can take advantage of him. This is basically the main plot of the story, what happens, well that’s up to you to read and find out for yourself.
I managed to burrow this book from my library and I read it within a few days. Personally, I found this to be a really enjoyable read and Patricia made her main character Perry so sweet, if a little slow, that I couldn’t help but cry at a few parts within the book. If you do have some spare time then i think that you should burrow this book from your library and read it. It has short chapters and is written very simply. It’s not bogged down with tons of descriptions and it’s actually very quick and easy. She does jump from one thing to another so you’ll have to keep up at some points to understand what and when the story takes place but other then that it’s a nice story.
