Necropolis
An overview about the book Necropolis – four of the Gatekeepers.
The book I have chosen for my book report is called Necropolis by the well known English writer Anthony Horowitz, also known as the king of suspense. Necropolis is the fourth book of The Gatekeepers series. Critics say it’s the best book written by Anthony Horowitz yet.
The language, storyline and message in this amazing novel is extremely powerful. This book would perfectly suit the teenagers but would, most likely, be too complicated for the younger minds as they might not understand these. Due to the high level of the content, this book is targeted at readers older than 13 years.
Now I will summarize the main storyline of this must-read book.
A long time ago, five teenagers face the creators of evil known as the “Old Ones”. These “Old Ones” controlled vast armies of evil beings including humans, animals, the dead, nature (trees etc.) and many more beings brought alive/created by them. These kids were extraordinary because each one of them held a unique power within them. The five, ultimately, succeeded in their endeavour to save the world from the evil. The children were smart and locked the “Old Ones” within several gates (several gates were needed because their army was massive and a solitary gate would be incapable of holding them in). The gates, for example, would only open when the stars in the heavens would align a certain way certain things happened. These five being the gatekeepers, knew this scenario would never occur.
In the third book, the Old Ones broke through the gate in Nazca, Peru using the influence of their powerful alliances. The Old Ones were, unfortunately, free. With this, the earth would be perilously close to it’s doom. The meeting of these gatekeepers was, therefore, absolutely imperative.
These five teenagers were spread throughout the world, each living in a different place. The legend said that when all five would meet, their powers would multiply. Their uniting would also confer upon them the power to dominate all evil. They would also have the potential to beat the “Old Ones”. They hoped to meet soon.
The Old Ones, not wanting this to happen, use the utmost power at their disposal to prevent this meeting. However, despite their best efforts, Matthew Freeman, Scarlett Adams, Jamie Tyler, Scott Tyler and Pedro finally do meet. Their meeting, as promised, gives them the potential of beating the Old Ones.
Each one had a unique power. Scarlett Adams had the power to predict weather and to summon weather whenever in need. Matthew Freeman had the power to levitate metal objects. Jamie and Scott Tyler were brothers and could read anyone’s mind excluding beings without a mind. They could also control actions of others they influenced (eg. they could tell someone to dance and they would do it). Pedro had the ability to heal himself, or anyone else, faster than usual. They all had one thing in common. They had no families. None of them ever knew their parents and lived with their foster parents with the sole exception of Pedro who was a beggar in the streets of Peru.
They all lived to accomplish one thing.
Read the book and find out what happens next!
