This book is about a teenager named Steve who lives in a bad neighborhood got in trouble for a crime he did not commit the murder of a store clerk. Steve goes to court and him and his attorney battle for his freedom in this greatly written book. This is one book the second you pick it up you won’t be able to put it down till it is done Monster truly is a great book.

For an instance the first line of the book says “The best time to cry is at night.” At first one would thing this was going to be a sappy book about how he hates his life, but the second time one read that they would know what he was referring too and the reader would feel sympathy for Steve.

Monster talks about punishment and how they had this long court session to figure out punishments. In the book they were quickly summoned off and some went to jail and some went free. In the past there was no slow court session it went fast, and people were killed if they messed around, the time changes of the past and current day and age show time reverence as there is still punishment but it is on a much lower scale.
