Anne’s character is of the model young lady. The type little girls dream of but, only Jane Austen could immortalize in a novel. Anne’s intelligence, charity and opinions placed her in a rank of women all to herself. The duty of finding a match for her rested on an old friend and a motherly figure, Lady Russell. Lady Russell expertise and knowledge of Anne Elliot made a suitable woman for the task since Anne’s own mother was not around.
Anne’s intelligence and tenderness made her attractive and desirable to many. She only had eyes for one. Mr. Wentworth came into Anne Elliot’s life and stole her heart. Even though each party loved each other their marriage was unforeseen. Lady Russell advice
Anne against the engagement with Captain Wentworth (this was before he became a sailor and risen in ranks to Captain of course). Mr. Wentworth’s character seemed questionable to Lady Russell. She feared the fate of the Elliot fortune would go to bad hands.
Eight and a half years had pass and the two lovers separated without any communication of good prospects. Both were afraid and hurt by the nature of the game. The return of Captain Wentworth into Anne’s life was not glamorous. He was courting the girls of Mr. and Mrs. Musgrove. This was not easy for her to sit and watch the one she desired, but could not have. She avoided any extreme measures to be in his company. She tired missing the dinner invitations and volunteered to care for her ill nephew.
No one would have thought that there was no hope of them being together. But fate can be unpredictable especially if being worked up by the creative mind of Jane Austen. Captain Wentworth after overhearing Anne’s opinion of men and their quick hearts wrote a letter professing his love to Anne Elliot!
The strong emotions of a true lover’s heart are strong enough to break through the chambers of the heart. In the end Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth confessed their love for each other and lived together has destined.
