Being creative is a hard thing for some people, but, remaining creative is hard for everyone. At one moment, someone will come up with a very good ingenious plan to do something in a certain field. It might be in music, the silver screen or in writing. After that, a lot of people will try and use that idea in their own ‘creations’ by copying the style or by modifying it. These people get applauded for something they didn’t create and sometimes, they go to the extent of insinuating that they were the pioneers of the idea.
Dan Brown after writing the controversial novel: Da Vinci code got a lot of attention and critical acclaim from the media and other people. He came up with an idea that shook the very foundations of Christian believes about Jesus, purporting that he had impregnated Mary Magdalene so that his bloodline would continue in order to build the church. Mary Magdalene was the cornerstone on which the church was built and not Peter. These ideas fetched a lot of hostility from the religious people who felt as if they had been punched in their faces. Some of them had tried to emulate Jesus Christ all their lives by remaining chaste, just to be told that Jesus wasn’t taking the vow of chastity anymore. If it weren’t for security and Mr. Brown being careful, I am almost certain that someone would have killed him on religious grounds.
The book became an instant success and an international bestseller. Some people started claiming that Mr. Brown had stolen their ideas and that they should be well compensated. Other people took the opportunity and wrote books with a similar plot as if it was the in thing. These people were obviously trying to steal Mr. Browns thunder though they didn’t get far or anywhere near his. After the novel hit the stores, some people bought the book and then took to the streets where they demonstrated and burnt it. This made people more curious and so they bought it leading to an increase in its sales. It was the perfect marketing strategy for that book and any other book. Writing stuff that gets people talking and head spinning will most likely lead to good sales especially if what has been written affects a majority of the people.
The innovativeness that has been put in Dan Brown’s books has made them stand out as works of a genius. We hope that he can keep his touch in his next novel: The lost symbol. Most people are curious about it wondering whether it will match up to the sales of Da Vinci code that was released in 2003. Some people thought that he was indecisive about the novel after he changed its name from The Solomon’s Key. Now, people are going to get the satisfaction of knowing what Mr. Brown has been writing for the last six years. Most people are quite certain that the novel will not be as explosive as Da Vinci code since they cannot conceive anything about the free masons that would beat the controversy about Jesus. That’s probably the reason why they think that Mr. Brown has been a bit reluctant in finishing the novel. The same scenario had presented itself after J.K. Rowling finished her fourth book in the Harry potter series: The goblet of fire. A few people claimed that she was having a writer’s block of which she vehemently denied and proved herself when she released The Order of the Phoenix. The novel did better than her fourth one and the sales increased with each book until the last one.
Some people wonder what drives others to risk spoiling their name by producing something that might be considered mediocre as compared to ones’ previous work. If something is a serious major hit, what would make someone attempt to add anything to it? When Michael Jackson released thriller, people wondered whether he could keep up with his performance after that or if he would quit. Some people have been known to have done that and they have become one hit wonders because they cannot keep up the pressure and the creativity that is needed to retain them at those levels are too much for them. They eventually forsake the price of creativity and give up so that they might be remembered for the time they hit the hardest.

Good article. Serves to remind us that as hard as it is to keep producing fresh and inspired content, there are people who do keep up with the pressure, and emerge on top of the world. These people are our models, and we look up to them as our guiding lights. We may stumble… we may actually fall down… but as long as we pick ourselves up, brush off the dust and walk again, the journey isn’t over.
