Rome: The Novel of Ancient Rome – Steven Saylor
Rome. The novel of ancient Rome – Steven Saylor.
At first Rome looks like a fairly pretentious novel and a book to tell the story of Rome from its founding until the republic is a difficult task.
Saylor’s idea is to count the events that shaped the history of Rome through the experiences of two families go through different qye lots along the 1000 years covered by the book, since the founding of the city by Romulus and Rowing the dazzling rise and assassination of Julius Caesar .. It helps that the novel has a theme, and is not a series of unconnected chapters, because each new era with new characters we meet, children or grandchildren of the above. Also in this case what we read is the story of ordinary families, who see the situation of each era, and sometimes participates, but not usually protagonists. What helps you understand how the Romans lived then, there is a sequence of dates and names.
At the end of the novel is short, (I’m hoping the second part) is very educational, and although every time we tell a different story, manages to engage and reads very well. Strongly recommended
