Salman Rushdie, the much acclaimed writer and novelist, is in the lime light once again mainly due to two reasons.

Salman Rushdie, a towering literary celebrity and a much acclaimed writer,novelist and an essayist, has been in the lime light once again.Two breaking news that revolves around him, has pushed Salman Rushdie to the forefront of the print as well as the on line media.

The first one relates to his literary achievements. Born in Mumbai in 1947 and educated in England, Salman Rushdie shot into lime light when he won his first men Booker prize for his second novel ‘The Mid Night Children published in the year 1981.The book is turning up into a Hollywood movie.

Salman Rushdie, a British Indian, is now residing in New York. He is credited with ten novels so far.

Salman Rushdie nearly came to the brink of his life, when he published his controversial book ‘Satanic Verses in the year 1988.The then Iran President Ayatollah Khomeini considered some of the contents of the book Satanic verses as objectionable and blasphemous; so he issued a fatwa against him convicting him to death sentence. Despite Khomeini’s death, still the Fatwa is in force, since the person who issued the Fatwa can alone revoke it.

Salman Rushdie’s latest novel ‘the Enchantress of Florence is a popular novel; the story hovers around the link between the Mogul Emperor Akbar and the then rulers of Florence.The novel is a fine synthesis of historical episodes coupled with his imagination.

In the year 1993 and 2008, Salman Rushdie had been chosen as the Booker of Booker prize winner for his novel Mid Night Children which was adjudged as the best novel in 40 years. Salman Rushdie has also won a number of other literary awards across the globe.The awards include : The Satanic Verses – winner of the Whit bread Prize for Best Novel in 1988; Haroun and the Sea of Stories – winner of the Writers Guild of Britain Award; The Moor’s Last Sigh-another Whit bread Prize Best Novel winner; The Ground Beneath Her Feet-a Commonwealth Prize winner; Fury-a New York Times Notable Book winner, and Shalimar the Clown-a Time Book of the Year.

A latest award is also on the queue for Salman Rushdie.He has been chosen by the St.Louis University for conferring the St.Louis Literary Award to him for his literary achievements. The award function is fixed on 7 th,October, 2009, within the premises of the University; a special dinner is also being hosted to honor him along with special invitees.

The second news is related to Salman Rushdie’s divorced wife Padma Lakshmi.

Padma Lakshmi, aged 39, a top Indian model, a hostess of the Bravos chef, a writer and the divorced wife of Salman Rushdie is also in the hot news of the media. Salman Rushdie, who openly proclaimed that he did not believe in the marriage as a social institution, got married Padma Lakshmi in the year 2004. But he divorced her in the year 2007.

Padma Lakshmi, also blossomed into a writer by publishing her two cook books and shot into prominence.She was also nominated for Emmy award for the outstanding Host for the reality; Padma Lakshmi attended the award function and came up with a shocking news to the media. She revealed her pregnancy and she is expecting her baby shortly. But, she did not announce who was the father of the baby. However, there are gossips and rumors about the fatherhood of the yet to be born baby. One Manu Nathan, aged 27, a very close associate and her nephew is said to be the father of the baby. However, Padma Lakshmi’s close aide denies it.

Padma Lakshmi was happy about her pregnancy, because she had been suffering from some physical problems related to her menses and uterus for a very long time.

    I like this guy, for sometime he had been kept under strict security for threat to his life owing to the Satanic Verses but is now enjoying great publicity with new publications. It’s really not hard to come up with out of this world ideas if you have such a beautiful young (used to be) wife to drive you out of your mind. Well written.
