Start a Book Review Site at Your School
Books reports are so outdated. A lengthy book report assignment is not necessary when a simple book review will do. Start a community of readers and writers at your school today!
You may have a student book review site or blog in your school. If not, kids could submit their own short reviews to the school website or blog. The most helpful reviews could be voted up. Kids with the highest number of votes could be honored in some way. Teachers would need to supply a book review template. Students reviews would also need to be edited for spelling, punctuation and grammar errors before submission. However, students could have the option of not voting up a review that contains numerous errors. Books suggested by other students would be a powerful tool to increase reading volume in your school.
A book review site or blog would also make a great tool for students when they are stuck as to which book to read. Teachers can recommend books, but peers are the best source for a good read. The blog or site does not have to be a whole-school site. If you are a reading or language arts teacher, your class could be the one review site in the school, and your students would be the “go to” people for books that rock!
