“Sweetheart” – Chelsea Cain
Review on Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain.
The other day I went to the library and was browsing the shelves when I saw a book with this interesting cover (No matter what anyone says, we still judge a book by it’s cover. Isn’t it? More of that later…) . I picked it up and realized that it was actually a sequel to the book “Heartsick” by Chelsea Cain. That book was worth a read (you’ll know how much I loved it if you have read my review on it) and I decided to give this book a try as well.
“Sweetheart” is a sweet bitter novel, with lots of hatred, love, obsession, thrill, suspense and everything else. I would rate this book higher than Heartsick mainly because of the relationships that developed throughout the book.
[SPOILER ALERT]
Archie’s relationship with his kids was touching, while his obsession with Gretchen was suddenly more comprehensible. Archie’s actions really angered me, especially seeing his attitude towards Debbie and his longing for Gretchen, when it should have been the other way around. I had sympathies for his family. They needed him, and it seemed like he didn’t care. Henry’s character was much more developed throughout the book and his friendship was impressive. Susan, as crazy as she is, was entertaining and unpredictable. The plot was well written and script was easy to follow. Once again, Cain has won me. I couldn’t put the book down and I fell asleep with the book in my hand many times. It was that good.
Gretchen…I don’t know what to say about her. I hate her because everything comes to her so easily. I am not able to imagine such beauty that can persuade every man. In my head, she is still a blurry face. I love the calmness in her voice though. It’s unbelievable how she can keep her posture so still in spite of the many murders she has committed. It made me so mad when she escaped once again! I mean, come on!!! Is Cain going to write a third novel?
If she does, I have a feeling I wil surely be reading it….
