Teenagers and Books
How teenagers think of books? How do they treat and appreciate the content of books and novels?
The new generation and their relationship with the books
I’m 19 years old. I love reading books, especially mystery novels. It is just amazing what is written in a piece of paper can make your mind travel in places you have never been and question a lot of thing that you thought quarantee!
What I don’t understant is the fact that my generation does not think the value of reading is such important as they see books only as boring and they only read magazines which gossip every move a celebrity does, or they watch TV all day, finally spend their free time surfing the net. I speak from my experience as most of my friends, no to be correct, all of my friends do that. They’re not interested a bit about books and reading. I’m not talking about difficult to understant novels, but novels like Agatha Christie’s (who is one of my favorite writters), the most known Shakespeare, whose books are easy to read and very pleasant, or Vern.
The thing is that they don’t even read this kind of novels, they would prefer to watch a tv show like Big Brother where any human right is lost and you just see some people trupped in a house and all the nation watches evey move of them!!! I think this is stupid and totally not right.
Many times I tried to recommend and lend some of my books to them but in the end they didn’t read them….!!
This fact is linked to the school and family. If kids see books only as a mandatory because they don’t enjoy school, then when they get older they won’t see and understant the true value of them, maybe only when they’re old and have have got a lot of experiences.
The majority of youngsters don’t read books, thus they do so many writing mistakes and their imagination is very narrow.
The problem should be solved not only by the goverment, but by ourselves. We are the example for the kids so we should act and behave the way we would like to see them do so too in the near years when they grow up too.
