Spiderman.Hero or Menace?

This is the headline of the newspaper ‘The Daily Bugle’, describing Spiderman by the overly imaginative editor, who is more focused on sensationalism than any notion of reality.Let’s see what spiderman is really all about.

Spiderman, alas Peter Parker, is an amazing creature conceived by the creative minds of Marvel Comics.I remember reading a comic when I was a kid, and being fascinated by the superhero drawing spiderwebs onto villains and jumping from building to building.

Peter Parker, an orphan who is smart, but bullied at school, is bitten one day by a radioactive spider on a visit to a school trip to a science lab, which gives him the amazing powers, that he is famous for.

Spiderman – SuperHuman Abilities.

The truly amazing spiderman has the abilities of the normal spider, which are

• Crawl up walls.
• Spin webs from his hands to trap enemies.
• 6th sense. Can sense danger before it happens.
• Great reflexes.Can avoid danger by the 6th sense ability, being impossible to defeat.

Every hero has an anti-hero, or enemies.Spiderman is no different to the rule.The enemies have superpowers themselves, are smart, and are in contant battle to outsmart the spiderman.

Some of the enemies are:

• Green Goblin.

The Goblin is human by day industrialist, norman osborne, who transforms into the infamous green goblin, by consuming an untested serum which drives him insane, and giving him superhuman strength.

The Green goblin is characterised by high tech gadgetry, like the flying glyder.Other ‘weapons’ include ball shaped pumpkins that when thrown, transform into lethal weaponry. In the movie “spiderman’, one of the ball’s disistengrates norman’s corporate board of directors, while another thrown at Spiderman, changes into a myriad of ninja blades that nearly chop up the hapless hero, who avoids the slaughter by his amazing ability.

The green goblin, underestimating Spiderman’s 6th sense of danger, is killed in the end by his gadgetry, and the legacy of norman osborn is passed to his son, who also happens to be Spiderman’s friend.

You can see The Green Goblin in the first movie of Spiderman, which is really funny to watch.

• Doctor Octopus.

The robot arms of Doctor Octopus, are an invention of the character, Octavius,  who is a respected doctor.The inhibitor chip which disables the artificial intelligence of these arms, is accidently destroyed in an accident, and they arms control Octavious, giving him psychotic thoughts, and killing those without his consent, and having a life of their own.Even killing the doctors who were trying to cut the arms of Octavius when he is in hospital.

Doctor octopus is portrayed in the second Spiderman movie, starring Alfred Molina.I prefer the Green Goblin as I think he is a lot funnier, while Doctor Octopus is a more sadder, serious character.

Superhero feat.Spiderman in the movies.

If you watch the first movie of Spiderman you will have a good introduction to the world of Spiderman.His human family, his relationships, his friends at school, as well as his evolution into the world of Spiderman.

His powers enable him to defeat the bully at his school as well.This scene is really funny.The bully wants to punch him and no matter how hard he tries, Peter Parker evades his every move, and he ends up on the floor with food on his face. Peter Parker also uses his new found Spiderman abilities on a wrestlemania contest, which he wins against the odds, and despite being humiliated by fanatical fans, who think he’s just a joke, not the real thing. A must see movie, which was one of strongest earning films of the year, 2002.
