The Rash Decision of William Heron
My summary of the story “Sonata for Harp and Bicycle” and how we can lear from his rash decision he made.
In the story Sonata for Harp and Bicycle by Joan Aiken, William Heron is a night watchman for the Grimes Building in England. Every night his beloved Daisy would come to him around 10 O’ clock at night and one night she didn’t because the alarm she used to wake herself up didn’t work that night. William was going to propose to her that night and told her that he had something special for her. So when she never came he thought that she had found another man and didn’t want to be with him.
William ended up jumping off of the fire escape committing suicide with the flowers and wine in hand. It is very sad that he did this and also on top of that he did it, when in actuality her alarm didn’t go off and she wasn’t with another man.
This story of William Heron at the Grimes Building teaches us that it is important to never make rash decisions (although I will never suggest committing suicide by jumping off of a building). Although we may think we know how the situation is it doesn’t mean we don’t double check and just make a rash decision that could change our lives for ever.
I will make sure to never make rash because it is just totally unnecessary to cause problems with in my life over something that should not have cause such a problem. I guess its sort of like when my girl friend isn’t at church sometimes, unless I know why she isn’t there, I get worried that something happened to her because she said she would be there and wasn’t. That’s probably the only way I can relate to what he did, but I would never do anything to that extent (William Heron had mental issues). That’s why we should never make rash decisions that could in turn change our lives in a negative way.
