In these books Sam Whitchall finds himself falsely accused of cowardice and is sent to the prison colony in Australia. He enjoys life there but foolishly re offends and is made a slave. He escapes and works his way back to Sydney only to find that news of his pardon reached the farm on which he had been made a slave the day after he left. He then returns home where he rejoins the navy but as a midshipman (officer in training) with the help of his wealthy friends father. Shortly after becoming a midshipman he finds himself on the first rate ship HMS Victory and fighting in the battle of Trafalgar alongside Admiral Nelson. He survives this battle but Nelson does not and is then fortunate enough to attend Nelson’s funeral.

Review

I have not really enjoyed reading these books because they are too fragmented. Almost no part of the story lasts for more than 10 pages so I have found these to be more like a collection of many short stories than 3 novels. On top of that I am never really sure how seriously these books are taking them selves. At one point they are trying to be very historically accurate and later there is a lot of very unlikely things happening.

Final Score 6/10
+The plot is quite interesting
+Quite historically accurate
-To fragmented
-Inconsistent
-To many unprobable circumstances
