The main characters in this novel are sixteen people who are named as heirs in Sam Westing’s will. The story takes place in Sunset Towers and the Westing Estate, during a snowstorm in the middle of November. They must play the Westing Game to solve the mystery of Sam Westing’s murder. Whoever solves the mystery inherits the $200,000,000 that Sam Westing has left behind. The problem is that the tenants suspect one another of the murder. Everyone is greedy and wants to solve the mystery alone to inherit all the money. They want to be independent but realize that they need each other to solve the murder. The problem is solved when the tenants realize that Sam Westing was never killed. His identity was stolen by a tenant, Sandy the doorman. Th ae tenants split the inheritance and everyone is happy in the end.
