Twilight vs. Harry Potter: Take Your Vote
Fans have been debating which is better: Twilight or Harry Potter?
I have been planning to write this article since my friends started talking fascinatedly about the Twilight series. Out of curiosity, I read the book and found it good. But is it really good enough to get compared with the Harry Potter series?
Harry Potter and Twilight
I have read all seven books of the Harry Potter series. I really liked the books. Actually, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was the first book that pushed me to read. (I didn’t like books much before.)
Now then, my reasons for this are:
- Harry Potter introduces a really magical experience.
- There’s Hogwarts where you’ll really see the students studying magic.
- You’ll see how wizards live- banks, transportaion, government, and even sports. And it’s shown really well.
- There are tons of creative, original creatures.
- I like the spells and potions.
- There are diverse and interesting characters throughout the series.
- J.K. Rowling must really believe in magic because, reading her books, anyone will surely believe, experience, and hope for it.
Next is Twilight. I only heard about it from friends who speak so fondly of it. I haven’t yet finished reading it; I stopped halfway in Eclipse.
Here are my observations:
- A new way to view vampires- they don’t die in daylight.
- I liked the werewolf legends.
- I enjoyed the conversations between Edward and Bella- colorful language.

In conclusion, I liked Harry Potter more. Why? J.K. Rowling never failed to introduce something new everytime. Her story will surely lure the readers to dive further into her magical world.
I didn’t like Twilight that much because (1) Bella’s too obsessed with Edward; (2) the story’s a bit predictable- the vampires will always rescue Bella. But, as I said, I haven’t finished the series yet and maybe I missed something good. And may I just ask: They say that Twilight has grammatical errors. Is that true? I never saw one. You may include the errors on the comments below.

TWILIGHT SERIES? it sucks… i fell asleep on the book didnt even get pass chapter 5, its like a script not much details on things. Its an insult to more excellent vampire authors coz this got more famous then they do. take away the vampire context and u still wouldnt loose the romance on the book. and i dont find edward romantic his more like a creepy stalker that should be put in jail for public safety. i remember how i saw the first book in the book store nice covers but when i read the summary i placed it back not worth my money.. how would i know she would became famous. for the sake of it i went thru the book when it got famous, i really couldnt finish it, it bores me and its sooo shallow.. i rather spend time and money with anne rice or laurell hamilton or angela knight over her books.
on the other hand harry potter is a great series however the last book kinda sucks…. specially the ending.. o.0 its like coming from a fanfic.
anyway, i hate twilight but i cant compare them both. Harry potter is a wizard and witches story. twilight is vampire and werewolf story completely different. people should stop comparing it. other than both are children’s book (yes children coz twilight is really for children’s books compared to rice,knight and hamilton’s vampires)

My vote is on Harry Potter, anytime.
I read both book. I like Harry Potter, and I’m alright with Twilight. Harry Potter is more superior whereas Twilight is sort of a very laidback, easy book. Twilight’s writing is very, very, very immature-ish, amateur-ish, they don’t make you think and it’s not the greatest piece of writing (the writer sounds like a 12 year old teenager writing in English class). Storyline and plot, weak. Characterization, ok…you’re kidding, right? HOWEVER, it is a good one-sitting, easy-reading, nothing-serious book. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from reading anything no matter how bad the writing is. At least that person is reading.
My point? There’s not even a contest here. Harry Potter wins.
I don’t know why people always creating a competition between these two fictional series, since in the film, the leading actor of the twilight is also a part of the Harry Potter films.
Fans are creating only problems for themselves, while the actors are friends with each other. LOL

first: because i love JK’s style of writing (3rd person -omniscient- very descriptive, in a good way – unlike Meyer’s long and boring paragraphs about bella’s thoughts. ugh!) and stephenie’s writing is sort of.. lame. i mean, it didn’t sound that professional.
second: in HP, there’s an actual plot. while in Twilight, i wasn’t too sure. i think it only had edward to hook readers into reading it.
third: the characters and setting. while reading harry potter, i feel like i know these people and places. there was familiarity in there. i didn’t feel that in twilight. i guess there was just lack of plot to detail there lives and personality more.
fourth: they are wizards! they can do much more than vampires.
fifth: after reading both a million times, twilight did nothing but assure me that edward’s effin hot, while HP brought me back to its world and assured me that You-know-who’s back and he’s killin’! haha. i literally get sucked into the plot!
so there. Harry Potter, definitely

if the wizards cast the spell petrificus totalus all of the oppnents will be body-binded or if the vampires are so fast a slow motion spell will be used by the wizards (the one hermoine used to the cornish pixies on harry potter 2 movie or the spell used by dumbledore to harry when albus is about to die) the vampires cannot defeat wizards in the end the wizards will use the killing curse, no one survive it though, exept harry!

Why i liked twilight?
because..
A) i like love stories. and for me twilight saga is more of a love story than a fantasy book, really.
B) i love Edward, not because he’s rob pattinson, but because i loved how he loved Bella. lol i mean how passionate he is. (in the book not the movie. i think rob overdo it by his facial expressions lol)
C) i love the cullen family and jacob. i dunno why though. lol i dont care about the others.
Why i love harry potter series?

A) i loved the friendship of the trio. (and the love story of ron and hermy. lol i find it cute)
B) i loved how JK Rowling made the name Lord Voldemort. i was amazed really.
C) the author really did a FANTASY book that you’ll wish to be true!! i have read the series nth times and it still make me feel like im there in the book literally. y’know what i mean? lol
D) JK has a lot more wild imagination than steph. and it made the series fantstic. (fantastic is an understatement)
E) i LOVED how the whole story sewn. how the books are totally connected in every aspect. JK never left a hole in the story, everything is explained very carefully,etc etc.
F) i LOVED how HP series make me excited no matter how many times ive read them. lol (no overacting there, just the truth)

Gaahh! It isn’t an equal vote! Harry Potter beats Twilight by far!! Nothing is better than Harry Potter. Those who say Twilight is better than Harry Potter clearly haven’t read the books by J.K. I must admit, Twilight was a nice movie, but I still think Harry Potter was WAY more thought out…Twilight IS predictable, you know that Edward is going to save Bella. Harry Potter goes throught twist and turns.

Comparing Harry Potter series to Twilight Saga?!
Well I must say that I’m a BIG fan of Harry Potter so when I heard about Twilight I cant stop thinking that this book becomes talk of all people but then I read the first installment it really sucks! Compare to Harry Potter, Rowling really do some twist and turn and the event is very unpredictable and also compare the two films When I watch Twilight it really bored me I think that the romance is there but i think that the actors do not relate to the role they portray, compare to the professionalism of Three protagonist of HP series I think this guy really know what there doing, they relate enough to the scence and you will that they are too professional enough to portray there role so to the Twilight fans do not hurt yourselves comparing Harry Potter series to Twilight because Harry Potter(Daniel Radcliffe) really rocks! and Rob Pattinson is more better if he belongs to Harry Potter Cast again but sad to say he died in the HP and the Goblet of Fire (HP4)…. LOL

When I first heard of Harry Potter and witnessed the massive hype around the series, I was sceptical. They seemed like children’s books with their colourful covers. Eventually I ended up reading the whole series and became a fan.
When Twilight came along, I was curious. People kept comparing it with Harry Potter and I decided to give it a chance. In the end, the covers were better than the books.
Harry Potter introduced a world full of interesting and quirky characters. Rowling always paid attention to details. Twilight, on the other hand, offers nothing new. It’s just a romance series.
I like twilight. I give it a five out of five, but harry potter would get ten if that was an option!

I think it is crazy to compare the two. They are completely different with different authors. I enjoyed both book series equally, but in completely different ways, however, I must say I enjoyed the Harry Potter movies better.

I never thought I would say this but … I like twilight much more than harry potter . I’m planning to start reading the books next week. I’ve already read all the harry potter books. At first I hated twilight because harry potter and the half-blood prince was moved to july and its place was taken by twilight .I think that this is the reason why some harry potter fans hate it. Another is because people don’t like love stories but the final reason is the most important. Harry Potter fans are deep inside jealous because twilight is now the international best seller and it threw harry potter to the second place and when they watch twilight they feel anger and hate and they don’t let themselves love it . I love both both of them but in my opinion twilight is much better. That’s all I had to say.

No, this debate should not even be started. Why? Because if Twilight alone gets defeated by other vampire novels, why the heck should it be compared to Harry Potter? I mean, if it’s disgraced by books of the same genre, what more that of another genre? I only liked the covers of Twilight. Yeah, but Harry Potter has MORE DETAIL compared to that of Twilight. And as for the ladies who drool over “the sparkly body of dearest Eddykins”, get a life. Haven’t you noticed that the story basically repeated itself in Breaking Dawn? No, wait, scratch that. Saying that Twilight has a plot… it’s an overstatement. Yes, that’s right. An OVERSTATEMENT. It basically revolves around the “perfectly handsome” transvestite you TwiHards (or should I say TwiTARDS) call Edward Cullen. I did not study Literature for nothing, I spent countless hours reading the books that became part of History like Shakespeare, Bronte, Poe, and many others. Twilight, for me, is nothing bad badly written fan fiction by a retarded twelve-year-old who had no love life and decided to make one to make herself rich and famous. Enough said. Twlight should never be compared to anything AT ALL. Because there’s no book lower than it, only higher. That’s all I can say. Thank you.

ive tried to read the harry potter movies and personally, I couldn’t get through the first page

Two things about this debate really, really, really annoy me.
1. This debate should not have even started. Twilight is not in the same league as Harry Potter. Not many books are. And I’ve read several hundred.
2. Twilight fans are simple, immature and stupid. They can never come up with anything apart from ‘Edward is hot!’. But I’m not trying to be rude. I mean, if I was a Twilight fan, I wouldn’t be able to think of anything apart from that either. And whenever there is an intelligent, civilised debate between the two, Harry Potter always comes up by a landslide. Coincidence? I think not.
@nunyabiz, whoever you are, you don’t know what LITERATURE really is. Unless you’re a 12-year-old kid, I’d forgive you. But if you’re already 16, oh good lord, please have mercy on this poor creature. I’m 18 and is currently taking up Literature in College. And not only I, but my professor hates Twilight WITH A PASSION. So do’t you dare say that I suck. Then that will mean my awesome professor sucks. Look at you talking, like you’re such a brat and all. Of course Harry Potter makes you sleep. Why? Because you don’t appreciate literature like others do. And I read both the Twilight Series and the Harry Potter Series. Guess what, sweetie? Rowling actually put effort into making her book, and put in more details than Meyer does. And as much as Meyer tried putting details, she only added words to sound like she knows everything. So what if she graduated in English in a university? Rowling graduated in LITERATURE, like I will. And isn’t it great that Harry Potter puts you to sleep? It’s called a bedtime story, dimwit. You think Twilight is better? Think again. Stephen King himself said that “Meyer can’t WRITE A DARN THING.”
Duh, of course Meyer can’t write well. She talks about romance and sparkling transvestite wannabes she calls “vampires”. Not only does Twilight insult literature, but also the word “vampire”.
I rest my case. Twilight was never in par with Harry Potter. In fact, Harry Potter is a hundredfold better than Twilight. And if no one understands what I say, then go read a dictionary. I’m already talking in simple English. Only foreigners might have difficulty in this, but to those whose native tongue is English, then I feel sorry for you.

Sorry! but I guess HP is much better I think u read the book but u didn’t get the idea of the story! Meyer introduce us the world of Vampire but as I read the book the story is only circulating at the love story of the protagonist! she didn’t even do some twist to the story compare to Ms. Rowling.. she is a gud writer/novelist she can use some words to make the story more significant and thats the fact that I didn’t see on Twilight, Twilight has no signigicant features.. sorry to tell u that u just read and do not appreciate the story! and I think u read twilight just because it is new and your friends tell u that! try to read and understand the story that’s only an opinion if you take it personally then u are losser!

Ugh Twilight is entertaining for a moment, but there is NO WAY that it even compares to the masterpiece that is Harry Potter. Harry Potter is incredibly inventive, it has superb story lines and characters and a great deeper meaning. It can be read over and over and over. Twilight is barely bearable enough to read once. Also, Harry Potter works by sucking the reader in and stimulating their imagination – twilight attracts readers who fantasize about the perfect guy, and get thrills from imagining Mr. Right touching their arm.
Harry Potter is entertaining for people of all ages and denominations, as we can tell from its worldwide success. Twilight, on the other hand, is a pathetic daydream for tweenage girls. I am astonished that there is even debate over which book is better. HARRY POTTER KICKS TWILIGHT’S ASS.

It gives hope. twilight only teaches girls to be obsessed over vampires. it’s so insulting to even compare twilight and harry potter. harry potter is like such a good book while the twilight series just sucks. bella is such a two-timer and i bet it just reflects on stephenie meyer herself.
Personally, I like Harry Potter MUCH MUCH more. I’ve read all 7, but I’ve only read the first two Twilight books, although I know almost exactly what happens. Twilight is really predictable; you always know that Bella’s going to be saved by Edward. It’s also very stretched-out, you could fit it 2 books. It’s repetitive, not believable and not very well-written. The characters aren’t complex like real people. The only thing Bella thinks about is Edward and the weather. It only appeals to tween and teen girls, while Harry Potter can appeal to both genders and all ages. You don’t know what’s going to happen in it, it’s characters are believable, the plot is amazing. Although, the ending was a bit of a let-down, especially the epilogue. I was hoping for both Harry and Voldemort to die, which would be much more unexpected. But the series, all in all, is my all-time favourite. I hate Twilight. It’s just a fad, and most girls only like it because Edward’s hot.
I admit it… I am a REAL book worm I finished the Harry Potter series in 40 days. And my mom said I can’t read ahead of her in Twilight but I finished that in a week. I think that Daniel Radcliffe/ Harry Potter is SO CUTE!!!!! And J.K. (did you notice J.K. like Just Kidding) Rowling has a way with words and she makes you turn the page. My friend (I won’t use his real name) Curry said he didn’t like the kind of book that Harry Potter is (same with my sister) and I forced him to read it. And he did (I have my ways) and guess what he was ADICTED to it. And my sister didn’t get past page 59 but she loved it! And Stephine Meyer she makes it TOO easy to find things out but the movie was awsome. I mean I read it thought it was OK. I didn’t know if it would get better so I thought “Hey maybe this series can get better give it a chance!” And then there are girls who think Edward Cullen is SO hot. I think he is OK and Bella???!! What is she supposed to be not so pretty I think she looked like she was vomited on. Have you even heard that Robert (the guy that acts Edward) asked Kristen (the girl that acts Bella) to go to New York City with him. They have to be together. So all in all Twilight should be triple checked for ANY give aways. You know.
So Harry Potter… has a cute actor for the part NO give aways. And you can even like make up your own theries! How cool is that? And if you don’t like it… That is your loss.

Harry Potter is Indeed the best book and also the best fantasy movie of all time!!! REASONS WHY TWILIGHT SUCKS:
1.) Bella has no personality WHATSOEVER, but she is good when it comes to sacrificing herself to save loved ones.
2.)Why are people in love with a book character.
3.)Predictable plot.
4.)Overrated way too much.
5.)God dammit vampires DO NOT sparkle.
My mom got me this HP book for like over a year now and I don’t even think that I made it past chapter 5. The book was so boring there’s nothing to compare it to and trust me I tried to read it again and I still didn’t finish it but when I read Twilight I took three days and it was damn good!
I see why most of you are crazy about HP. But I think you guys missed a lot of great stuff in Twilight, or you haven’t read the whole series yet. It gives plenty of suspense for the readers. And the rivalry between Edward and Jacob takes the story to a whole another level which Harry Potter doesn’t even come close to. In fact, I think HP SUCKS!!!!! Go TWILIGHT!!!!!!!

I think Twilight is boring.Nothing really exciting happens…it’s just that a bad intentioned vampire wants to kill Bella,but the Cullen family always protect her,and that Bella is terribly in love with Edward.Full chapters about how perfect he is,about how sad she is that he’s gone,and about why she can’t decide if she likes best Jacob or Edward.Well,it’s kind of predictable…of course Bella will choose Edward,because she tried to kill herself once because she couldn’t see him from a while.Unlike Harry Potter,whose story you never know how it will continue.Think at it:after he fell from his broom “Nimbus 2000″,did you think that it will fly right in the bot?Of course you didn’t.Or that the mysterious diary’s owner was in fact Voldemort?(the one in the second book)Or that in fact Ginny wrote the messages on the wall?(still in the second book).But you knew that after all,Bella will become a vampire,didn’t you?I think that Harry Potter roks and Twilight sucks…no offence
