Whats a Good Book? (Plus More)

This article is about what makes a good book for you and some good books that I’ve read.

So, What makes a good book?

Does it have to have a ton of action packed agent spying, or romance, or have the deepest biography piece?

No.

A good book is whatever you personally like, and don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise. You might like Alex Rider books while another person may like deep philosophical pieces, and they’re complete opposites but he likes his and you like yours, whatever you think of the other persons book.

So, now here are some books and sets of books that i think are enjoyable for boys from the age of 10 to even adults in some cases.

Goodnight Mister Tom is a brilliant book set in WWII, when William Beech is evacuated to the country. His mother – putting it frankly – is a mental religious fanatic and has scared Willie witless for most of his life, from being beaten to being told that he isn’t even liked when he speaks.

But that all changes when he goes to the country with Mr Tom, a lonely older man whose wife died in her 20s, and he never quite got over it and remained a man who kept himself to himself. But when Willie comes into his life, everything changes, and he’s pretty much horrified to find what his mother has done to him and sets about changing it.

The book is a real nerve-hitter that is well-worth the read, and I usually read killer books and would normally never even pick this up, but it changed my view drastically.

Private Peaceful is one of or the best of Michael Morpurgo’s. It’s a really emotional, sad and wonderful story of young Tommo Peaceful. It’s set (again) in and before WWI (by the way I don’t have a thing about World Wars…). Tommo Peaceful has a terrible secret, starting from when he is just a child. He steadily goes to school with his big brother Charlie until more complicated factors enter the story.

This is a very good book and well worth the read, and if you don’t feel any emotion near the end of it: 1. You need to get a bit more of a life. 2. You haven’t read it thoroughly enough to follow the story line.

The series of Republic Commando is, I think, one of the best series in the Star Wars saga. It sets off with the clone commandos arriving back from Geonosis, where 4 soul survivors of squads will be forged as a new squad – Omega squad – and will face the horrors of the planet Qiilura and make new allies as their first mission together.

The series is one of the most must-read if you’re a Star Wars book lover.

The story of Darth Bane is a interesting, intriguing and inventive story of a once miner-turned Sith trooper-turned Sith Apprentice. It’s a fairly gory book series (the second is worst) with a never-stopping thrill of events unfolding.

By Drew Karpyshyn, a good series worth the read – unless you’re squeamish.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this article, which is also my first, and will come back for more.

the first 2 books are good, I’ve read them myself and found them particularly enjoyable. The next 2 books look like a load of **** and may have been chosen because the author has a slight fixation with star wars?? Nicely written though.
