Why Aren’t You Reading Moore?

The newest and greatest satirist of the U.S. just keeps putting out novel after novel, are you keeping up with Christopher Moore?

I am a reader, what one might call a voracious reader. Somewhere along the line that is my life I decided that having a library card was akin to winning the lottery. I still wait for a librarian to approach me and say that I need to slow down and leave some books for the rest of the world… that being said let it be known that my advice and my opinions are infallible by the default characteristic of volume.

So what I want to know is “Why aren’t you reading Christopher Moore ?”

The irreverent author of such genius novels such as “Practical Demonkeeping”,  “Lamb : The Gospel according to Biff,  Christ’s Childhood Pal”, and most recently “Fool” the story of a court jester of King Lear using treachery, sex and war to reestablish the kingdom he once loved, Christopher Moore is nothing short of a modern Jonathan Swift. While using the everyday battles of an everyman set into extraordinary circumstances the hilarity and twisted reality Mr. Moore creates will stay with you long after reading but one of his novels.

To compare someone to Kurt Vonnegut is often cruel, as he was nothing short of the greatest modern master of satire, but Moore is well on his way to having that power to hold up the world into a light that makes all who dare to look at it shocked at just how funny the world can be.

Much in the same way as Vonnegut and not to a lesser extent Stephan King, Moore uses repeating characters and setting in his novels. Sometimes just a blip, sometimes leaving you in the dark if you have read none of his previous material. The comfort of the absurd world that Moore has conjured for us to enjoy is nothing short of spectacular.

I encourage all lovers of fiction to find your way to a book store or library immediately, and prepare yourself to set into a rekindling of great American satire.
