Will All Books Go Digital?

The end of the paper book?

It is starting to happen. You have the phenomena of Digital books or as they are more commonly called e books. These are books you can download from the library or from a book stores website and read on your personal computer, laptop, Palm pilot, or I-Phone. It’s a very unnerving trend. In the future buying a book will no longer mean walking in to a bookstore but downloading it from a website.

I think this is nasty .I like going to the bookstore and searching through paper books looking for a nice book I can put under a glass table and people can pick up and gawk at. With the invention of digital books you will have less paper books being bought and eventually bookstores closing because the bulk of books will be bought on line. From a publishing stand point this is great. It means less money to publish a book, because you just have to transfer it to your website, not worrying about ink costs or costs of buying paper to make the book and it means fewer trees cut down.

But there is something about having a personal collection of books that people who come over can gawk at and ask you if you actually read all those books.

You have a reader like the Kindle that can download many e-books and can let you read through them at your leisure however once your done all you can do is delete them and get the next book. How are people to know what you have read without a book around showing it?

The eBook readers are still in their infancy and still cost a lot but one day I am sure most books will be published on the internet and only special books will be published on paper. I hate to think of all the bookstores that may close, but the publishing houses will expand. They may find a growing need for new e-books as more people turn to their computer or e-book readers to read stories. They could then have easier publishing costs, and in hind sight will make publishing a book by a writer easier. If you don’t have to worry as much about printing cost publishing becomes faster and easier.

I think that day will come. I mean already here I am writing on Triond a first step at mass internet article publishing. It is only soon when e-book publishing will happen too.

I already miss paper books and they are not gone yet.
