A small document regarding one of the greatest personality of England…

In the year 1564, a great personality was born in England. He was William Shakespeare, the most famous poet and author of many impressive books like the Merchant Of Venice, Othello etc. He was also a famous dramatist. He has been the greatest writer in England’s history. He has written 154 sonnets and 38 plays. Apart from this, he wrote many poems also. He is the National Poet Of England and well knowns as “the Bard”.

William Shakespeare’s childhood passed by in Stratford. He married to Anne Hathaway in the age of 18 only. She gave birth to 3 children later. During 1580s, he started his career as an actor, then became a writer later in 1590s. He got a huge financial bonus when he worked in King’s Men’s part owner, as an actor and writer. But people say that most of his plays were not completely written by shakespeare himself. The plays were mostly revised or collaborated.

His sonnets were basically wriitten on themes like beauty, mortality and love. He had written 154 sonnets in is lifetime. These sonnets are famus today also. sonnets are generally composed of 3 quatrains with 14 lines followed by closing couplet. The scheme of rthyme foolowed in a sonnet are abab cdcd efef gg. The year 1609 marked publication of Shakespeare’s two poems: 138th and 144th. The famous quotes from these poems were “When my love swears that she is made of truth” and “Two loves have I, of comfort and despair” respectively. They were prevoiusly published in The Passionate Pilgrim, in the year 1599.

Shakespeare’s poems and plays were marked by large number of iambis pentameters. Most of his passages in the prose had such feature. The rthym which he had in his poems were excellent and he used punctuations to make them more interesting. The dialogues between each and every character in his plays, were separated by blank verses.  One of his famous quote in his play called Othello was “Hear it not Duncan; for it is a knell that summons thee to heaven or to hell.” Duncan was a character in that play.

At the age of 52, in the year 1613, the great poet passed away. During his lifetime, he gained popularity through this attractive and impressive talent of playwrittings and sonnets. On of the famous poet Francis Meres had said that Shakespeare was the most excellent writer for both tragedy and comedy. Among few poets, who emerged after Shakespeare’s Death, Ben Johnson was one such person who criticised Shakespeare’s work but also praised sometimes. He quoted like this Shakespeare was “soul of the age, the applause, delight, the wonder of our stage”. Nevertheless, William Shakespeare’s contribution to the world’s literature is unforgotten.
