Children’s Book Review of Affirmation Weaver, a Believe in Yourself Story: Weaving a Sparkling Web for Self-esteem

"Affirmation Weaver: A Believe in Yourself Story" introduces to children of all ages the self-empowering technique of affirmations by way of a self-doubting dolphin, a wise sea child, and an artistic hermit crab.

Affirmation Weaver: A Believe in Yourself Story was written by Lori Lite, illustrated by Max Stasuyk, and was released by Litebooks.Net on February 15, 2008.

Lori Lite founded Stress Free Kids® as a resource center for guiding children, teenagers, and adults to replace anger, anxiety, and stress with relaxation and self-esteem. A major motivation for Lori’s creativity in writing stories on these themes is creating mental and physical states which are conducive to restful sleep.

Affirmation Weaver: A Believe in Yourself Story is one of four tales comprising Stress Free Kids’ Indigo Ocean Dreams® series. The three other titles in the enchanting series are Angry Octopus: A Relaxation Story (August 3, 2008), Bubble Riding: A Relaxation Story (February 15, 2008), and Sea Otter Cove: A Relaxation Story (October 15, 2008).

The talented team of author Lori Lite and illustrator Max Stasuyk have collaborated on all four titles in the Indigo Ocean Dreams® series. Each installment is a unique blend of verbal and pictorial artistry. Each installment is an enriching and creative experience which instills appreciation, calm, and confidence.

Affirmation Weaver: A Believe in Yourself Story opens with the definition of an affirmation as “a compliment that you give to yourself.” Readers are encouraged to pay attention to the compliments expressed by the sea friends in the story, to repeat them to themselves, and to be prepared for good feelings to result from these affirmations.

A young dolphin is filled with self-doubt as he morosely sits on a seashell at the bottom of the sea. Nearby a big-hearted hermit crab is quietly and industriously weaving strands of seaweed into a lovely web. Not very talkative, the crab expresses himself through his intricate, sparkling web and welcomes the approach of any sea creatures desiring to stop and gaze appreciatively upon his artistry. The crab’s creativity is appreciated by his neighborly sea dwellers.

But the young dolphin’s heart is so sad that he cannot fully enjoy the crab’s artwork.

After quietly watching the self-doubting dolphin, a sea child asks why he is down below on the sea floor instead of up above on the sea surface where his dolphin friends are having fun as they jump above the wavy sea surface.

The dolphin’s sad response is that his jumps are not high and that learning playful tricks and jumps is beyond his abilities.

Overhearing this conversation, the hermit crab decides to create another kind of web, one which sparkles with affirmations of self-worth and of confidence.

The dolphin’s morosely plummeting self-image is boosted upward toward a healthy self-esteem as he listens to sea creatures utter wonderful affirmations while taking positions around the crab’s lovely web. A flounder emerges from the sand to affirm, “I like myself.” A jellyfish declares, “I believe in myself.”

Soon the dolphin releases self-doubts in exchange for self-confidence, which gives him the courage to explore safely his abilities and capabilities and to participate in playtime with his dolphin friends without indulging in negative comparisons. With the joy which comes with healthy self-esteem, the dolphin swims directly to the sea’s surface. Exclaiming, “I can do it!”, he executes a high jump over the first wave which greets him.

Affirmation Weaver: A Believe in Yourself Story encourages all readers to find fulfillment in daily life through improved self-image, which facilitates goal accomplishment, overcomes stress, and dissipates anxiety. This enjoyable tale of a dolphin’s journey to a can-do attitude by way of affirmations and positive thoughts will provide its readers with endless amusement and inspiration.
