Comic Books, for Adults or Not?

Have you ever wondered if it was okay that adults liked comic books?

Comic books, they are intriguing to ones eyes, yet in a way seem childish and not for the “grown up” world. Though many would disagree to that fact, if one has never read a comic book or even glanced through it they may be caught up in it, but why should they its just a silly comic right? Wrong! Many of todays comics are NOT for children, but for the teens and adults of today and rightly so. True there may be some comic books like “Spiderman”, “Batman” and many other that suit children. But there are more adult comic books such as “The God Machine”, “Awakening”, and my personal favorite “Dr. Horrible”.

Some may wonder where comics come from, it started mostly in the early 1900’s with some famous comics to remember, William Randolph Hearst’s “Yellow kid”, Ally Sloper’s “Half Alley”, and of course Max
C. Gaines’s “Superman”. True, back then comics were mainly meant for children, but now its a whole different story. Comic books have been written for many ages, children, teens, and adults. There is a whole variety of comics to read from, but the biggest selection is for teens and adults. There are even conventions held for those who love comic books, such as the convention “Comic-Con”, which runs for four days in July and offers not only comic books but manga books (Japanese comic books) and other art work to. There are even panels that discus on new comic books that are coming out or what is going to happen to a comic book that is already running.

Children comic books are very few now-a-days, but not to fear that is why they make children’s books and leave the comics to those who can truly appreciate the hard work of the artist and writer. Spiderman, Superman, Batman, and the Hulk are still around for the children who want to get into comics early. They’re suited for the ages between eight and twelve, but by the time they get to the teens, in ones own opinion, they should be able to pick up a good comic book and enjoy the ride.

So are you still wondering why adults like comic books or even if they are okay to read? No, great! Then I suggest to google a comic book, preview a couple of pages and purchase it to enjoy for years to come. Please also keep in mind that some may not be what you thought it was. So please ask around before you buy it and blame the writer for creating such a concoction and causing total chaos to your life and the writers, because in the end everyone just wants to be happy. So Have fun and enjoy your daily dose of comic books, and don’t forget its okay because there are people just like you enjoying their own comic book.

I love comics but I love the animated movies more. I’ve collected comics as a child then stopped as I became an adult. Started collecting again with my son a few months ago.
