Review of The Book Series Dark Tower by Stephen King
This is an honest no BULL review of the popular book series The Dark Tower, by Stephen King. Providing an in depth look into the series and this writers perspective on them.
This is series is a must read for any western, horror,or scifi fans. Spanning seven books The Dark Tower Series story details the main character Roland’s jorney toward a tower. This tower is represented as both a physcal and metaphorical thing through out the books.
The author American Stephen King has described it as his Mangum Opus. Which it certainly fits that bill. Tied in with many of his other published works. Several of his other stories and books ties into the Tower series. you even see the appearence of many of these characters inside the series at seveal points. Which makes this a must read for any King fan. Even is you are not a king fan this is a great way to begin his works and will likely turn you into a king fan over night.
The entire series is based upon a poem by Robert Browning “Childe Roland tot he Dark Tower Came” which to understand the Dark Tower series is a must read. King has Done a wonderful job in bringing the different aspects of writing together in this one huge great master piece.
Through out the series Roland faces danger and rivals fate which he calls Ka. Facing down the evil of his past present and future finally finding and “Drawing” three friends to help him along in his quest Roland finds companionship in those three that decide that his world was better than the life the led before and strive just as hard as Roland does to reach the end of their Quest and see the Tower.
Symbolizism fill this series, like Tower and Rose being almost interchangeable. The concept of fate written here as the force Ka weighs heavily on our heros. They all must strive to better them selves while continuing on toward their goal.
In closing, i think this is a must read for any fan out there. i myself waited a logn ten years for the completion of the entire series. Begining in 1970 and not ending until 2004 it was a long wait for a lot of King fans. i myslef picked up te first book in 1994 and bought each and everyone as soon as they hit stores. After the end a series of comic prequels came out. All of which are a must read detialing in more depth the jorney of roland up to the start of the book series.
