Running Loose by Chris Cutcher

A 17 year old Louie Banks thinks he has whatever he wants.

A beautiful girlfriend, Becky that is really smart and is kind of a nature freak, a good spot on his 8 man football team, really good friends that stick with him no matter what, and a loving family that will back him up even if he is the town’s enemy. But everything seemed to change once a football player that played like a pro called Washington came to Trout (Trout is the high school Louie goes to school to) for a game. The only way to keep their record of like 20 straight games won was to injure Washington, so they did. Louie quits the team because a mean football player “Boomer” injured Washington by throwing him at the sideline bench and Louie thought there should have been a penalty. Later on it was getting really serious between Louie and Becky and sadly in the ending Becky dies because of some careless kids running on the bridge she was driving on and to save them Becky swerved off of the bridge and dyeing because when she crash into the water she smashed her face into the windshield.

I think Running Loose was a really good book. It was filled with excitement and you never got bored of it. Although I don’t think it is meant for people my age. I think it was realistic because of the drama and everything that is how I would react if my girlfriend died. This book was pretty easy to read I had trouble now and then but mostly it was easy. The ending really got me thinking why this happened and why that happened… All I know is that I want to read some more of his books!

Carter, Louie’s best friend and the quarterback for Trout football team. He is my favorite character because he is lean back like me and we both love football. Also we both like running and throwing. We both stick up for our friends and wouldn’t let anything happen to them. When Becky died he was with Louie all the time and made sure nothing happened to him. That is what I would do with my friends. We both also follow our instincts.

I especially like this quote ”no pain no gain” because its saying that if you are working out or something like that and you’re not feeling any pain then you haven’t gained anything at all. It is something that you think of a lot in football and soccer and well any sport. Another reason I like this quote is because Carter said it and he is my favorite character. My reaction to this quote is helpful. It is helpful so when you are exercising then you know not to stop unless your body is tired and aching. I absolutely agree with the quote because it is the best quote in the world it shows you how to work out pretty much.
