Arthur Miller Precis
About Arthur Miller and his well known play, The Crucible.
Widely known author Arthur Miller, writer of the much-admired play, The Crucible, tells us about the roots and ideas of the play and some of his emotional attachments to it. Miller describes the time period in the 1950’s, when the fear of Communism spread through America, to when he first became introduced to the Salem witch trials, all the way through his experiences at opening night when, at first, everyone was not very accepting of his work.
Miller’s purpose is to look back at his inspirations and personal connections to the play and express how he believes The Crucible is affecting people today. He adopts a very emotional tone that describes a very serious time for all of those that read his classic, The Crucible.
