John Steinbeck

A short biography on author John Steinbeck.

This is a short article on the author John Ernst Steinbeck. John wrote books that were fiction and non-fiction. For example during the great depression John wrote “The Grapes Of Wrath“. Then again during World War 2 John wrote the book “Once There Was a War“. John was born in Salinas, California, on February 27Th, 1902, to parents John Steinbeck Sr. and Olive Steinbeck. John was born from a German/Irish ancestry. John’s father was a county treasurer and his mother was a former teacher. John’s mother was the one who had gotten him into reading and writing. During the summer John would work on ranches, this is were he got his impression of the California countryside and the people.

In 1919, John had graduated from Salinas High School. After High School John decided to attend Stanford university, to major in English, but he soon left this major to do independent study at which he only attended occasionally. Shortly later in 1925, John decided to leave college and go to New York in attempt to become a writer. This attempt failed though and he moved back home in California. Finally in 1929, John wrote his first book (”Cup of Gold“) but to no avail, no one in the literature world took interest. So John went at it again and came out with his next books (”Pastures of Heaven” and “To a God Unknown“) but yet again these books were unpopular amongst the people and were shot down. Finally in 1930, John had gotten married to a women with the name of Carol. They lived in a small town where John wrote many books till finally in 1939 he had caught the break he needed and won the Pulitzer prize for his book (”Grapes of Wrath“). John later on went through two divorces and was married three times finally Passing away December 20Th, 1968 married to his third and final wife, living in New York City. John Lived a long and fulfilling life and is now remembered for his works of art, his books.
