One Hundred Years of Solitude

Ursula confirmed its impression that the time was giving returned in round. “There was no mystery in the heart of a Buendía, That outside impenetrable for her, because centuries of card and experience had taught to him that the history of the family was a gear of irreparable repetitions, a revolving wheel that had continued giving returned until the eternity, but for the progressive and irremediable wearing down of axis”.

The first time that I read One hundred years of solitude

Was in the secondary school – As they would imagine were part of a scholastic project – Nevertheless, by those days already existed in my certain passion by the reading. And to be honest, at that time the book seemed to me confused. I twice read it before presenting/displaying the task and although I made the analysis that the professor asked, I must confess that it had not understood very well that treated.

Years later looking for between my books a history to read during a short trip I found the book again – and the adventure began there to know and to understand the old manuscript of Melquíades, the crazy gypsy – As I call to him, because did not undergo dementia, but because with its great, black hat and its vest, always it gave the image me of being a crazy gypsy, but very interesting. Since thanks to, we know history Macondo and the Buendía family.

One hundred years of solitude it relates the history to us of Jose Arcadio Buendía and his wife, Úrsula. The pair has three children in spite of the fear to procreate pigs to have married between cousins: Jose Arcadio Buendía, the older son, Aureliano Buendía, that later would be colonel and Amaranta, the minor.

From them four generations will be born that, of cyclical way like history, will be related and procreating between they themselves, except for some exceptions. Jose Arcadio and Ursula, accompanied by other families, cross the mountain range and on a run aground desert place in the Caribbean one they found the town of Macondo; the town is witness of the happiness, the sadness, the fortune and the misfortune where during one hundred years, they lived the Buendía.

Love, hatred, and passion is the strongest elements in this history where over the years are to us four impregnated generations of superstition, fear, ignorance, solitude, religiousness and solidarity. Unforgettable games of names, histories that are interlaced and complemented to size you cross the mysterious and distant town of Macondo.

History is partly cyclical, since what a personage does not finish, does another one, the similar repetition of names, situations, etc.

The novel is developed during principles of century XX, Time of colonial imperialism (when “gringos” they arrive at Macondo to plant bananas) and from the war between liberal and preservative (carried out fights by Colonel Aureliano Buendía).

One hundred years of solitude, one hundred years of history, one hundred years of life, one hundred years of the constant fight to survive. Who not yet has read the history of the Buendía – I recommend to Him to do it. Surely at the outset it will seem to him confused, but in the end one will not regret. Who it clears and one of these days all in the world we make little gold fish during the day, to destroy them at night.

Interesting certain? Good, that will be the subject of another publication.

One hundred years of solitude, one hundred years of a history very well counted.

Without doubt one of the richest books as far as text,

Situations, scenes, personages.

In short, a rich book in all the sense of the word.
