Romeo and Juliet Scene Five Act Two
Why this particle scene is important to the whole the play.
The particle scene I choose to do was scene 5 Act 2. This particle scene is critical to the play; sense it helps the audience understand just how Juliet is filled with anticipation waiting for Romeo response. Juliet can barely contain herself when the Nurse pretends to be too tired to give her the news. In this scene we learn that the Nurse loves joking around or playing around which also helps explain things in the other scenes. We as in the audience also learn that Juliet must really love Romeo or she wouldn’t really care if the Nurse is so late. Some ominous foreshadowing is revealed. The Nurse’s joking game where she doesn’t tell Juliet the news, will find its sad mirror in a future scene, when the Nurse’s anguish prevents her from relating news to Juliet and thereby causing terrible confusion.
I think the Nurse doesn’t tell Juliet about Romeo, because she wants to see Juliet surprised. That’s also the reason why the Nurse, acts sad when she first approaches Juliet. The audience can tell the Nurse does this a lot, because Juliet responses with, “If good, thou shamest the music of sweet news by playing it to me with so sour a face.” But then it seems as if the Nurse really gets upset when Juliet says that. But the Nurse finally tells Juliet what Romeo said, and she really is surprised or happy.
In this scene youth is compared to a ball. The reason is because a ball is supposedly swift, so is youth. Juliet says that if the Nurse was young she would move as swift as a ball, “Had she affections and warm youthful blood, She would be as swift in motion as a ball.” There is a variety of different metaphors used in this scene Juliet calls the Nurse, honey, good, and even sweet, these metaphors are used to compare the Nurse to something good. This scene is an important part of the play it’s put in to help the audience better understand Juliet and the Nurse.
