Scout is a very independent tomboy; she is from Maycomb County, and her father Atticus  and her brother Jem who is older. She hates to ware dresses but her Aunt Alexandra wants her to be a lady so when she invites the neabiors for tea, Jean Louise has to ware a dress.

Scout’s teacher tells her that her father taught her wrong. That angers Scout because she taught her self to read and she learned to write because when she got into trouble, Calpurnia would have her copy verses out of the bible as a punishment she learned to write that way. She told Atticus what happened and he told her that she had to go to school it’s the law.

Atticus is hired to defend a black man charged with rape. When Scout goes to school Cecil Jacobs calls Atticus a Niger lover, she doesn’t know what it means only that he didn’t say it in a nice way. That was the first fight that she walked away from.

When Jem and scout went to court Jem told reverend that Scout didn’t understand what the were talking about, but scout told them that she did but she didn’t she just wanted to seem smart and not to be told it was because she wasn’t 9 yet. Dill was very emotional because they weren’t being fair to tom and it made him sick.

When scout and Jem were walking home from the pageant Bob Ewell followed them home and he tried to kill them Jem and him were fighting and he was knocked unconscious with a broken arm scout kept asking it he was dead and the told her no. Boo was the one who saved them ,Bob Ewell was found dead with a knife in his rib. Scout was very brave and scared because if not for Boo she and Jem could have died.
