Tom Sawyer: A Summary

A perspective on an American classic

This book is about a boy named Tom Sawyer and his friends, Huck Finn and Joe Harper, who are always falling into another adventure.

Tom is a prankster, a hero, an adventurer, and schoolboy that always finds his own fun. One night, Tom finds himself involved in a murder trial just because he was with his friend, Huck Finn, trying to cure their warts with a dead cat.

Tom is such a tricky kid; he can even paint a whole fence without even lifting a finger. Just by making other kids think that painting is a lot of fun, he is even paid to let kids paint for him. Also, Tom is the sliest kid you will ever meet. At one point he sneaks home after everyone thinks he’s dead, listens to people talk about him, and plans to go back for his own funeral.

The slyness comes in really handy in the dangerous parts. Tom and his friends are always getting in dangerous situations. In one part, they find themselves just a few feet from a big fight and a murder. They also have to dodge a tree in a lightning storm, and even hide in a haunted house while they listen to robbers talk about their stolen goods.

This book is basically about just an average American kid that has un-average adventures. It is a book that gives kids great things to dream about and adults things to remember. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a great book for all age levels to read.
