Analysis on Antigone and Haemon

Two characters in the play Antigone that can be compared and contrasted.

To  begin,  Antigone  and  Haemon  both  love  each  other  very  much.  They  were  both  willing  to  give  their  life  for  a  person  that  they  care   about.  Antigone  was  wiling  to  risk  her  own  life  when  she  went  against  Creon’s  orders  and  buried  Polynices  body.  Haemon  gave  his  own  life  when  his  father,  Creon,  did  not  listen  to  his  advice.  He  tried  to  tell  his  father  that  unless  he  freed  Antigone  something  terrible  would  happen.  When  Haemon  found  out  that  Antigone  had  hanged  herself,  he  decided  to  stab  himself,  in  order  be  with  Antigone,  his  one  and  only   love.  This  is  how  Antigone  and  Haemon  are  alike.   Antigone  and  Haemon  also  have  their  differences.  Antigone  never  asked  Creon  to  spare  her  life.  Antigone  new  that  she  would  be  cursed  for  the  rest  of  her,  she  felt  that  there  was  no  point   in  her  living.  The  rest  of  her  life  would  just  be  constant  misery.  Antigone was  hoping  to  find  peace  in  the  after  life.  Haemon  was  the  only  one  that  tried  to  save  Antigone.  He  was  willing  to  kill himself  if  Creon  did  not  free  Antigone.  If  Antigone  waited  a  while  longer  she  could  have  been  saved,  and  maybe  things  would  have  turned  out  better  for  her,  with  Haemon  by  her  side.  Even  though  they  both  died,  Creon  had  to  live  with  in  burden.  He  lost  his  son  and  the  chanced  to  be  forgiven  by  the  gods.
