Dark Angel, written by V. C. Andrews is the second book in The Casteel Series. This book was published in the year 1986 and was instantly appreciated by the Casteel series fans.

Plot Summary

After the earlier events (which happened in the earlier book of the series, “Heaven”), Heaven Casteel lives under the custody of her grand parents (her mother’s parents). Her grand parents are Tony and Jillian Tatterton who are very wealthy people. Heaven Casteel thinks of leading a wonderful life there by making new friends, by going to a new school and most importantly she wishes for love. She wants to find her brothers and sisters and dreams of having a family once again. She wants to make her family respectable.

But reality is not a dream. Soon, she finds herself at loggerheads with her grand parents. Her grand mother is a selfish lady while her husband(Heaven’s step grand father) is very dominating and controlling. The only one in that house with whom she could share her feelings is Troy, who is Tony’s brother. He suffers from depression. Though Heaven is given everything she wants in that house, she is still not happy as Tony puts a condition that she shouldn’t meet her family again. He also says that he would stop providing her anything if she meets her family ever. This stops her from trying to meet her siblings Tom and Fanny, though she continues to write letters to them.

Eventually, Heaven and Troy fall in love, much to the dismay of Jillian, though Tony is thrilled. Heaven lies to Tony that she is going to New York and goes to meet her parents. She arrives in Washington D.C. and finds out that Keith and Jane are living there happily with their adoptive parents. Fanny lives in a boarding house and she is leading a poor life. Luke marries Stacey and they live happily and Tom also lives with them.

When Heaven returns to Boston, Tony tells her that she was born to Tony and Heaven’s mother when he raped her. This makes things complicated as Troy is Heaven’s uncle. But still, Heaven says that she loves Troy who has fled away from Boston after knowing the truth. After sometime they are informed that Troy died in an accident.

Heaven graduates and moves to Winnerrow. She becomes a teacher and is respected by everyone. Eventually her father, Luke Casteel and her brother Tom die.

In the end, she becomes engaged to marry Logan, her first love.

It is one book which has so many twists and turns and it is just like going on a nice roller coaster ride while reading this book.
