Picture of Dorian Gray in a Page-worth

Basically, if you want to know what The Picture of Dorian Gray is about, but don’t feel like reading 250 pages, this one is for you.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is about a very handsome young man by the name of Dorian gray. Dorian was posing for a portrait that his artist friend was drawing. Basil Did not want to exhibit this portrait, because as he thought, he has “simply put too much of himself into it.” Instead, he gave the portrait to the person in the picture, Dorian Gray. Dorian took a look at the portrait and was completely amazed by his own beauty. He, in fact, wished that it was possible for him to never change, and that the portrait will have the burden of the changes.
Basil had a friend named Henry Wotton (mostly known as lord Henry). This man got to know Dorian Gray very well and they became great friends, but Henry’s personality has poisoned Dorian’s innocent soul with his clever remarks and obsession to vivisect things and examining other people’s behavior. But, he is in fact a very wise man.
Dorian fell in love with a woman named Cybil Vane. Cybil was a young beautiful actress from a poor family. She had a nickname for Dorian: “Prince Charming”. Dorian loved her for her acting. He said “She is everything to me. One evening she is Rosalind. And the next evening she is Imogen. I have seen her die in the gloom of an Italian Tomb, sucking poison from her lover’s lips. I have watched her wandering through the forest of Arden…” Sibyl was in love in love with Dorian, but one night, when she finally realized how much she loved her “Prince Charming”, Sybil performed very bad, because, as Henry said “not a single great artist or actor can have a decent personal life, like no artist or actor with a personal life can ever be good” This greatly disappointed Dorian and he broke her heart and turned away on her. Sybil loved him too much to bear this and killed herself.
The next morning, Dorian looked at his portrait and noticed that his innocent smile was now stained with a hint of cruelty. His wish must have came true. The Portrait is now showing the hideousness of his soul. He tried to fix his mistake by writing Sybil the most passionate love letter only to discover that she killed herself.
After that, Dorian did not bother to correct his mistakes. He lived his life fully, just like his good friend Lord Henry. Though during the life he lead he had plenty of other friends and women, most of them either ended up dead or with their life completely ruined. Dorian became known as this one man no good lady should ever know.
One night, after plenty of years have passed, Dorian saw his friend Basil. Basil was just looking for him to tell him that he is departing for France to work on an art piece and wanted to say goodbye. Dorian decided to finally share his secret with someone.
Dorian has let Basil in the study room where he kept the portrait locked away from other people’s eyes. As Dorian lifted the blanket, Basil was completely shocked. Dorian’s soul which was mirrored in a portrait was so hideous that the mere look of the face in the picture made him tremble. Basil wanted to help Dorian. He told him it’s not too late, that he must pray and hope that his sins are forgive, but Dorian said it is simply to late.
Dorian took a glance at the portrait, and a strange force made Dorian hate Basil with every inch of his being. In his madness, Dorian took a knife that was laying in the room and stabbed Basil in the neck. But the realization that he just killed a man didn’t seem to lay an effect on him. His humanity was already gone.
Only after a few days, Dorian decided to finally get read of anything that may lead the police. He burned his clothes, and got a scientist he knows to get rid of the body wholly. But there was still something left. The Portrait. Dorian needed to get rid of it, so he took the knife before and stabbed it right through the heart of his portrait, but by stabbing the portrait he in fact killed himself.
