“The Most Dangerous Game” Analytical Paragraph

A paragraph analyzing the character of General Zaroff in the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”.

Because of his technologically advanced island and superb etiquette, General Zaroff is a sophisticated and refined human being. “I have electricity. We try to be civilized here.” (21) This quote shows his island estate actually has electrical power, and therefore showing that his island is highly sophisticated. General Zaroff is able to get electrical power on a remote and desolate island, which is not an easy feat. “In a cultivated voice marked by a slight accent that gave it added precision and deliberateness, he said: “It is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter, to my home”” (12-13). This excerpt from the story demonstrates General Zaroff’s excellent etiquette and manners. These manners of his only reveal his very cultured and polite side. General Zaroff is highly civilized because of his sophisticated island estate and his surprisingly excellent manners and intellect.
