The White Tiger: The Book to Read
The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga is a must read, especially for Indians.
The curiosity began when I heard that The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga got the Booker award in 2008.The curiosity doubled when I came to know that he is an Indian writer and this was his very first novel. So I dropped in to Crossword (a book store chain) to get the book. But Alas! The book was out of stock. I am a working professional in a MNC and hardly get time to go to shop in middle of the week. I told my little sister who is in college now to find it for me. I knew that most of the time she misses out class to chill out with friends and has ample time to fetch the book for me.Just after two days my sister gifted the book to me. I was very touched that she could remember and find the book for me.
Reading started. It’s beautifully written. You can say that it’s a collection of letters to this Chinese Minister Jiabo where the writer depicts how a guy from the village of Laxmangarh suffers to have born in an extremely poor family, had above average intelligence became an entrepreneur. His zeal towards better life, to be somebody someday, his high IQ and desire to turn the tables somehow, has shown flashes of Good and Bad (almost Demon) in him through out the book. It’s really interesting to note how the corruption in the country that had worked against him years back and is now working for him.
I suggest that everybody or at least every Indian should read the book to have a taste and a slight understanding of the miserable and suffering of Balram Halwai and his transition into a successful entrepreneur. This book (though some people are of opinion that this book has covered some very dark shades of Indian social and political situations) makes one’s belief stronger towards life and also gives one inspiration to fight and to sit tight in difficult situations.
